“In everything James has done, he has shunned publicity and recognition by way of medals, decorations and the like.”

The contrast between this man and the man in the White House is stark. We all know who the true patriot is and we don’t need to add to the other’s idolatry.

I was able to find James Allred‘s place on the Vietnam War Memorial 20 years ago. It took a bit of searching, but since I knew some of the family members, I wanted to at least try.

We are a family who most all of our men have served.

Vietnam War vets - we were from Fallon, Nevada and my little brother enlisted upon high school graduation. He was reported MIA during the Christmas truce. I came back home to be with my parents during that time. All we had was a letter from the Army saying he was missing. Then one very cold January evening, just in from chores, Mom and Dad sharing a beer by the fireplace, our phone rang. Always terrified that it would be the Army with bad news, but Mom got up to answer it. The operator said it was a collect call from John Nunn. Mom, thinking it was my cousin with the same name, told the operator he needed to call his dad in town and hung up. Mom said, she thought that strange that our cousin knows his dad's number. Then the phone rang again, and Mom turned around to answer it, then she dropped the receiver, and Dad caught her as she crumpled to the floor. Dad grabbed the receiver, yelling "Who the hell is this?" and John's voice coming back at him, "Dad, it's me, accept the charges." He was finally able to get to a phone at a hospital in Japan. I cry just writing this, remembering. We all have so many stories.

And your story about the Boise VA which I spent many an hour there with my stepdad on his final journey. It is a wonderful place. I wrote a story about how the camaraderie within the vet community is amazing. My heart cries for our vets. They are a breed of their own, thank you for reminding me of this special day.

Thank you Jim, for your own service and for that kind tribute to your friend.

What a difference between the quiet bravery of yesteryear and the bloviating, bullying braggarts like hegseth. America needs more real men like you and James.

A nice tribute Jim! Agent Orange has resulted in so much hardship for so many! It’s so sad that the current federal budget has stricken future funding for exposure to it and burn pits approved by the bipartisan PACT Act.

BTW, Welcome Home cannon cocker.
