I appreciate your desire for openness, Greg. On the other hand, if this is the sort of thing that will regularly appear here, I'm out. I actively avoid reading disinformation and blather.

I don't edit what people send me, and while there are parts of the article that many have an issue with, I thought it was important to show how various groups within the Idaho GOP are at odds with each other.

Roger, a silver lining to an opinion that could make us uncomfortable is that being aware of a group that intends to amend the U.S. Constitution should create a level of fear in all of us, especially with the people that support this endeavor, as listed.

This is not a situation any of us want or need for our country. The very people suggested in the guest opinion piece are the reason we actually need to stay alert and fight this effort. They don't respect the U.S. Constitution that has stood for 250 years, so I have no trust that they would do anything but ruin it. If our president's efforts to bring peace to Ukraine is any indication, we don't need updates from them.

It's too difficult to get past the first few misleading sentences. To be clear. trump absolutely did not win by a landslide, unless you think of winning the popular vote by by only a margin of 1.5% is a "landslide"? His electoral college vote margin was moderate compared to past election, reflecting a closely divided electorate. Additionally, his current approval rating : Pew-40%, Reuters-42% , Economist- 41%. So to read on means one must take everything written else into question.

I slogged my way through this whole thing because I was sure, after re-reading the first paragraph several times, that it was meant to be satire. Having gone through the whole piece carefully, I'm still unsure.

I stopped reading after the first paragraph. What a shit-sack of propaganda. He did not win by a landslide. Not even Fox News tried that lie.

If he has exposed so much waste and fraud, where are the criminal charges? Show us the people that were illegally collecting all these social security checks. Surely, you aren't just going to let them get off with no consequences?

This is bootlicking propaganda and if you actually believe this, you are literally in a cult. A disgrace to this country and a disgrace to our Constitution. You make me sick.

Say what?

trump elected by a historic landslide? NO!

Didn’t he FAIL to make America “great again” once, and FAIL to overthrow our government? YES!

Government fraud being exposed? NO! (I’d like to know where.)

Dismantling the bureaucratic swamp? NO! trump and the MAGAts ARE the bureaucratic

swamp!

Record breaking approval numbers? NO! Don’t make us laugh.

Trump can only do so much. Correction: trump can only do so much damage if we let him.

He needs to go.

The rest of this article is more cockamamie b.s. from someone who apparently has been living in a cave since 2015.

Do us a favor and stop wasting the time of real patriots. We have more important work to do.

Wowza! Ms. Halderson seems to have struck a nerve here. I had to scroll through all the straw man arguments just to get to the issue at hand. Nobody mentioned a $37 trillion national debt at the hands of career politicians no longer beholden to their constituents. Allowing the collective power of the states to inject some sanity into Washington, DC isn't the worse idea I can think of.

The founders gave the states the ability to restrain tyranny in Article V. What about imposing constitutional amendments to rein in federal power is so odious? When the Dems finally get back into the White House, what's to stop them from reversing all of Trump's executive orders? Those executive orders are no substitute for real amendments that will rightly shackle our congressional "leaders". Why isn't the founder's solution an option?

Agree Jeff, an Article V convention is the only way to take control back from the Federal government and give it to the states where is belongs.

The anger toward an Article V Convention (and the author) proves exactly why we need one. Washington D.C. is $36 trillion in debt (meaning that all of us are!) and ignores constitutional limits. Congress enjoys only a 15% approval rating but acts like royalty, not servants of the people, which is exactly what they are!

Millions of grassroots citizens across this country recognize the truth and know that if we don't use Article V, we will lose our republic. An out-of-control bureaucracy, politicized justice, and vanishing freedoms will become permanent. Article V is not radical. It is the safety valve the Founders themselves gave us, because they knew that “man being man”, tyranny always sets in.

Those who attack this post offer only fear, insults, and blind loyalty to a broken system. Do any of you offer even a single viable option other than a Convention of States? Even 1 real option? Or perhaps you do not believe that our system is broken? All I could say to that is “WOW”.

The real danger isn't an Article V Convention, its process is clearly outlined in the Constitution AND backed by centuries of legal scholarship. (look it up; do your research!) The real danger is doing nothing and allowing our Constitution and our Constitutional Republic to bleed out, piece by piece, until there’s nothing left to save. Is that really what you want?

Teresa Haldorson's comments on the Convention of States are straightforward and spot on. These are not fringe views or radical ideas. In fact, national polling shows that by large margins (over 2/3rds) #WeThePeople support the states calling a limited topic convention to propose amendments. https://conventionofstates.com/groundbreaking-new-information-about-the-nationwide-appeal-of-convention-of-states

The level of vitriol and fear-mongering in the negative comments here is very disappointing, especially considering that we all supposedly love our country and want to save it from imploding from within. How about opening your minds a little bit and consider the risk/reward proposition. It takes a whole lot of conspiracy theories and fear to say something will go wrong, so we should just stay the course and let a runaway Congress continue to steer us into the ditch? No!

3/4ths of States are needed to ratify any amendment proposals coming out of the states convention, a very high bar. The Founders expected us to use this Article V clause 2 process when needed, which is NOW!

Mr. Graf, I agree with the earlier comments, that, in short, your substack has no business putting forward such overtly incorrect and indeed offensive material. Your justification that "For this site to reach a wider audience, it's important to publish different perspectives, even if I don't agree with all of them." is off base with this. A nonsense-filled screed advocating a dangerous and oppressive Constitutional modification is not "a different perspective", it's angering and blatant horseshit that makes me feel like I've been tricked into reading it. Like Roger, if this keeps up I'm outtahere. If you wanted to publish it as a concrete example of some new radical right offense, then name it as such in advance, so we know how to make sense of it in the context of reading Political Potatoes. If you think it's a valid viewpoint worth considering then say that, so we can realize we're in the wrong place. If you're looking for a "wider audience" that believes Ms. Haldorson's fictions, I'll be leaving along with others in the shrinking audience.

Greg, unless you were attempting to publish satire, this piece has zero value to discerning patriots who know the difference between journalistic integrity and The People’s (Poison) Pen, Kootenai Journal, Citizen's Alliance and other such damaging propaganda blogs and rags. Let those listed publish this nonsense. We need a publication that rising above such propaganda to look to for news.

We have rules in place to regulate immigration and streamline government. Too bad the Trump administration, which was elected by less than a majority of the people who voted, can't make a plan to do both without violating the law, upending the lives of hundreds of thousands of loyal American workers, damaging our economy, thumbing our collective noses at our allies and lying about it.

Do we need an Article V Convention, YES. There are many Constitutional issues that can only be fixed by an amendment. Congress is incapable of fixing these problems. That leaves an Article V Convention as the only solution.

The call for the convention by COSAction is not the way. No partisan call will ever reach the 34 states required to call a convention. COSAction has been trying for over 10 years and only 19 states have joined their call.

The way to a convention is a non-partisan call that includes a framework for holding the convention. A non-partisan call could get 34 states to make the call. The framework would address the legitimate issues with an Article V Convention. This is the only path.

If you believe that our federal government is in need of repairs then the only way is an Article V Convention. The only way to an Article V Convention is with a non-partisan call that includes a framework for holding the convention.

Actually COS Action is extremely nonpartisan. And if you look a large number of those left of center are supportive. They see the ongoing destruction and it hurts everyone regardless of which side of the isle you are on. I plan to do a deep dive into your site; I’d say we are more in alignment than not. Likely we’ll be in touch!
