Every few years some Idaho Republicans argue that the Idaho GOP should use caucuses to nominate candidates, rather than use the May primary.
Heather Lauer, the former Blaine County Republican Chair, on May 28th, complained about crossover voting by Democrats in the Republican primary and her solution is “a caucus system for Republican nominations”.
If such were adopted then the impact would be to dramatically reduce the number of Idaho Republicans picking candidates by as much as 80%.
That is based on the simple fact that Republicans in Idaho have tried caucuses in Idaho twice in recent history and saw both times highly diminished participation.
