Last week I was in Dallas, Texas, for business and wasn’t even sure I’d have a flight home. The ripple effect of this record-long government shutdown has reached nearly every industry, including now the airline sector that depends on federally-paid workers in air traffic control centers. And to think that these folks had to go without paychecks before any elected member of Congress would ever go without one is asinine, in my opinion.
Not to mention the fact that we were scrambling to find ways to pay our soldiers while members of Congress rested easy knowing their own paychecks were secure. Imagine being deployed, serving your country, and learning that your family back home might not be able to pay the bills because of Washington gridlock. Meanwhile, the very lawmakers responsible for the mess are cashing their checks right on schedule. But of course, that comes as no surprise.
