Enough of white old men telling women that our healthcare issues, have ulterior motives. This is a dishonest line of information. I am disgusted that this was brought to this substack.
Why is it always the WHITE MEN advocating against abortion? And they are laser focused on controlling women’s choices over their own bodies and reproductive choices.
How about we flip this issue on its head and focus on PREVENTING unwanted pregnancy in the first place. And guess what fellas?? That starts with YOU. I propose we make abortion a non-issue by putting laws into place that put the responsibility directly on MEN. Seems only fair to me since y’all are so concerned with the rights of the unborn. So let’s put laws into place requiring all males to get vasectomies at age 14, and when they reach adulthood and find a partner they want to procreate with…then they can get a reversal. And when they are done procreating, then it’s back to the doctor to get snipped again. Problem solved.
Or hell, let’s get even more invasive and restrictive. Let’s make it a CRIME for any male to impregnate any female. First unwanted pregnancy results in a mandatory 5-year prison sentence for the male, regardless of age. Only fair since statistically speaking, that female will bear the responsibility of raising and caring for that child regardless of the circumstances that led up to the pregnancy.
Second offense gets males a mandatory 10-year sentence. Third offense (if there is one) gets mandatory life. And in cases of rape or incest…mandatory life without parole.
Now let the male outrage begin. Because of course, if men are confronted with threats to THEIR bodily autonomy and choices, AND if they are held accountable for those choices, well…then…I expect the excuses and hypocrisy will be off the charts.
I never hear men acknowledge the major changes a woman’s body goes through during and after pregnancy. To force a child or woman who doesn’t want a child or to be an incubator for someone else is ludicrous.
To claim we need more children in this overpopulated world to justify in vitro and banning abortion is contradictory when we are calling refugees and migrants and asylum seekers “ illegal” and separating them from their jobs and families.
I can understand this man’s view as he “ lost a son to abortion” and I do feel for him but his religious beliefs do not belong in politics or in my womb.
This type of legislation won’t stop abortions, just safe one’s. I have to add that defunding planned parenthood and eliminating sex education in schools is a huge mistake.
It's sad when a discussion about abortion doesn't include women. Men get a free pass in all of these discussions,their responsibility ends at impregnation. Abortion rates where abortion is illegal are the same as where it is legal. It makes you wonder what the point is since all this doesn't lead to lower abortion rates.
I don’t think men should have any say whatsoever in women’s healthcare. Most men who weigh in on the subject are woefully misinformed on the basics of female anatomy and show no interest in learning. Don’t be fooled by their sanctimonious “right to life” claims.

My heart grieves for David. Above all, beyond politics, gender or sect, David is, plain and simple, a GOOD PERSON. He defies the all-powerful algorithm, and that centers him in the crosshairs of both those who would do violence to “abortion murderers,” and those who scream “killing this fetus is my healthcare.” David, as an honest person of conscience with guile to none, has no “tribe” screaming for him. It is "absolutes" like you just posted that challenge our ability to "reason" through this issue. The question of "when does protected life begin" rests with the society obligated to preserve it. We are several hundred years removed from when societal decisions were confined to just one cross-section deemed "exclusively empowered."

These Republican lawmakers and WHITE MEN now say that abortion isn’t okay EVER, even in cases of rape, incest, or fetal abnormalities. But when pressed, they will often make an exception…ONE exception, right? IF the life of the mother is at risk. Now, that’s supposed to sound compassionate, right? Because of course (insert sarcastic tone here), they’re not monsters.
But here’s the truth. If they admit that there are certain situations where abortion is necessary to save someone’s life, then they are admitting that they understand that abortion is HEALTH CARE.
People get confused, because they think well…yeah…it’s allowed if the woman is going to die. We would never allow that to happen, but bringing a woman to the edge of death is essentially subjecting her to a coin flip.
You have now created a situation where doctors have to flip a coin and ask themselves, “do I save the baby, or do I save the mother?”
You’re not saying, “we’re GOING to save her.” You’re saying, “we’re going to give doctors the OPTION of saving her.” At the very last second. And by then, it’s often too late. And this conundrum is EXACTLY why Idaho has OB/GYN doctors leaving in droves.
So…no…this isn’t pro-life, and we all know this. Women instinctively know what this really is. It’s about control, and we need to call it EXACTLY what it is. When Republicans pass draconian laws like this and cut funding for birth control, they’re telling us EXACTLY who they are. And “pro-life” ain’t it.
