Hi Gregory, thank you for platforming Mr. Swensen today. He sounds like a true and reasonable conservative candidate, so I wish him well in his candidacy.
As one of Idaho’s Independent voters, I want to present you with a suggestion for improvement on interviewing these candidates.
I repeatedly hear questions of candidates about where they stand on controversial issues, but I NEVER hear follow-up questions about a SOLUTION to those issues. For example, you asked Mr. Swensen his stance on the “allowing transgender people in girls/women’s sports (and by extension…bathrooms),” and his answer was predictable. No problem…if that what he believes, it’s what he believes.
I’d like YOU, as the interviewer, to take it a step further. I want to hear what the SOLUTION is that will not only “protect girls and women,” but will also protect transgender people and honor and preserve their dignity.
Frankly, I’m sick and tired of hearing about problems that don’t exist, but I recognize that Traditional Republicans have to tread carefully so as not to alienate the “Trumpian-aligned” base, and their responses always reflect that. I get it…I really do. To do otherwise practically guarantees one won’t be elected no matter how sound their conservative values are.
Regardless, I’m no longer interested in hearing about a person’s stance on issues. I want to hear about solutions. And I’d like to hear you addressing that in your follow-up questions.
