Casey Swensen grew up in the Magic Valley working in his family’s grocery business, watching his dad and uncles build community, and learning that conservative values mean something beyond talking points. Now he’s running for Idaho State Senate District 25 because he’s tired of watching lawmakers vote against the lifeblood of the region they claim to serve.
Idaho’s water infrastructure keeps the Magic Valley alive. It feeds crops, sustains ranches, and anchors the economy. But when votes came up to protect it, some legislators said no. Same with adequate law enforcement funding. Same with supporting agriculture and small business. Swensen watched it happen and decided someone needed to stand up and actually do the work.
In our conversation, Casey explained what conservatism actually is: preserving the institutions, communities, and way of life that make Idaho what it is. It’s not about tearing everything down in the name of ideology or picking fights for the sake of conflict. It’s about building something worth passing on to the next generation.
“If we don’t preserve and take actions today that will preserve our future, then we don’t have those conservative values that we’re preaching,” he said. That’s what this race comes down to: action over rhetoric, results over noise.
We covered water, agriculture, accountability, and what it means to represent people instead of just showing up for a paycheck. Casey also talked about his pledge to come back and explain every vote to the people affected, even when those conversations are hard. If you live in District 25 or care about Idaho’s direction, this conversation is worth your time.
